Obama ‘assassin’ says sorry

A teenager who plotted to kill US presidential candidate Barack Obama as part of a national killing spree is sorry, his family says.

Kayla Schlesselman told the Associated Press that her brother Paul didn’t like black people, but the 18-year-old’s plan wasn’t serious.

“He’s sorry about everything he’s done,” she said at the family’s Arkansas home yesterday.

Ms Schlesselman said her brother didn’t like their tiny community of Helena-West Helna because it was prominently black. She also said he believed he was the master race, and would say things like “white power” and “Heil Hitler”.

US authorities reported yesterday that Schelesselman and Daniel Cowart, 20, had planned to rob a gun shop and target a predominantly black high school, shooting 88 blacks and decapitating another 14.

But Schlesselman’s father, Mike, said he didn’t believe his son would have carried out the plot and that it was “just a lot of talk”.
