If you ever visit the site you know that we are a big fan of polls around here. We love looking at them, analyzing them, and sometimes, even critiquing them. That said, today we will look at the latest batch of both state by state numbers as well as the most recent national figures – all of which have been released over the past couple of days.

(D) Barack Obama: 47%
(R) John McCain: 42%

Undecided: 10%

(D) Barack Obama: 53%
(R) John McCain: 40%

Undecided: 7%

(D) Barack Obama: 49%
(R) John McCain: 47%

Undecided: 4%

(D) Barack Obama: 43%
(R) John McCain: 53%
(L) Bob Barr: 1%

Undecided: 3%

There you have it, the latest polls from around the country both in a National General Election context, as well as a state by state look at Virginia, Georgia, and Massachusetts. What can we take from these numbers?

Well first of all Obama seems to be holding firm in Virginia, now maintaining his lead for a solid month. Georgia, a state Obama really hopes to be competitive in come November seems to have shifted somewhat in favor of McCain, opposed to what we saw a week ago. It is in my opinion that this can be directly contributed to Barr’s 1%. If Obama has a chance to win GA, which I firmly believe he does, Barr will ultimately have to carry 4-5% of the popular vote.

As for Massachusetts, a state McCain’s campaign hoped to put into play in terms of the general election, seems to be finally opening up in terms of leaning towards the Democratic candidate Barack Obama. I suspect that Obama’s lead will actually widen somewhat in the weeks ahead, so keep an eye out for that.
