While many of you were out and about over the weekend there was quite a bit of superdelegate happenings behind the scenes, and as you may imagine, Obama was the big winner – moving even closer to hitting the magical number needed to secure the nomination. Which is looking more and more necessary as each day passes with Hillary showing no signs of conceding or stepping aside.
Colorado and Kansas both caucus states where his wins guaranteed that his supporters would be picked for the add-on slots at the state conventions finally made the final moves official. Colorado selected former Denver Mayor Federico Pena, while Democrats in the prairie state of Kansas went with Lt. Governor Mark Parkinson – who on interesting sidenote, is the former Republican Party state chair in Kansas, however jumped ship too join the Democrats a few years back. Maryland D.N.C. officer Greg Pecoraro also pledged his support as a superdelegate to Barack Obama, which was announced in a press release sent out from the Obama camp.
Also making final decisions regarding their allocation of “supers” was California, who was not a caucus state, and was won by Senator Hillary Clinton back on “super Tuesday.”. Five “add on” delegates were needed to be assigned, and the final decision was made to give three of the five to Clinton supporters, while the remaining two slot were allocated to Obama supporters.
That makes the weekend scoreboard read like this. Senator Barack Obama walked away with +5 superdelegates, while Senator Hillary Clinton manages to snag +3 superdelegates, however due to a final count in Nevada lost one in that state, making her +2 on the weekend. Looks like yet another win for Obama; you would have to think Hillary is getting used to finishing second to this guy seeing as though she has done so quite frequently over the past 3-4 months.
